Dramatic Women

Last Days of the Empire

Dramatic Women is delighted to announce our latest production, opening Friday February 22 at Center Stage Theater, and playing through March 1 – the premiere performances of a new play by Bob Potter.

LAST DAYS OF THE EMPIRE is an historical fantasy set in the deserts of North Africa. On a moonlit night, anything is possible. Bob Potter's Last Days of the EmpireIn the sands of the Libyan desert, the rusted wreckage of World War II German tanks lie in the shadows of ancient Roman ruins. And at the horizon, the flickering lights of an American-run petroleum consortium can be seen. In this dreamlike setting, some remarkable inhabitants of these outposts of empire encounter one another and their historical dilemmas, in a life-and-death situation. As their paths cross, and their shared experiences collide, they make a series of tragicomic discoveries about the meaning of their lives and times.

The production features a cast of some of Santa Barbara’s finest actors, including: Devon Bell (recently seen in SBCC’s "The Man Who Came to Dinner"), Tom Hinshaw (acclaimed for his hilarious performance in Genesis West’s "The God of Hell"), Sylvia Short ( Broadway veteran and frequent Ensemble Theatre star, making her Dramatic Women debut), multi-Indie award winner Tiffany Story and Boxtales Theatre standout Matt Tavianini ("The Odyssey" at the Lobero). The production is directed by Maurice Lord ("The Goat", "Blue Heart"; Artistic Director of Genesis West).

Sets and lighting are designed by Theodore Michael Dolas, with costumes by Ellen McBride Sheppard. Don’t miss this exciting event!
